This Saturday 20th of January the 2018 PMRA Racing Team line-up has been presented, with important highlights such as the signing of three word-class international bikers in order to guarantee being one of the most relevant teams of the UCI ranking again.
One of the most featured news is the returning to the XCO MTB discipline of the 2015 Worlds bronze medal, Ondrej Cink, after a season with the UCI World Tour team Bahrain Merida, where he has taken part in many international races including the Tour de France.
These were his words during his presentation press conference:
“I decided to come back because I missed the mountain bike very much. I love this sport. Road cycling is also beautiful but my heart tells me to come back to the MTB. That is the reason why I decided to come back. I chose Primaflor-Mondraker because it’s a young team and everyone is motivated to work. I also like very much the new full suspension bike from Mondraker and I am looking forward for the first ride with this bike”.
Ondrej has already been training with one of the latest Mondraker F-Podium prototypes and has shown an outstanding adaption to it, even taking it to have some bike park runs, enjoying at its most the benefits of the Zero Suspension System in this bike.
The other two incorporations are the aussies Rebecca Henderson and Daniel McConnell, showing that the Team is working towards an internationalisation process.
Rebecca finished in the 17th place of the UCI ranking after achieving great results such as 8th place in Nove Mesto and 5th in Albstadt. She is also 3 times consecutive National Champion.
“I chose Primaflor Mondraker with the strong recommendation of my friend and former teammate Sergio Mantecon. He speaks very highly of the riders and management of the team so I am really excited to work with a Spanish team. I really like the mentality of the Spanish, focused and serious about the racing but it’s also really important to love and enjoy the sport of mountainbiking. I feel Primaflor Mondraker offers so many great opportunities for me to progress my career and I am looking forward to having strong European based support.
My goals for 2018 include the Commonwealth Games, this is a huge (almost equal to the Olympic Games) event for the Commonwealth Countries and it is held on the Gold Coast in Australia. I will also be working hard to get back onto the World Cup podium again - it’s such a great feeling!”
Meanwhile, Daniel McConnell is a well-known biker in the World Circuit. He managed a great 9th position at last World’s in Cairns and has managed to perform at a very high level throughout several seasons, especially in 2014 when he never came off the top ten in any World Cup race.
“I am really excited to be riding for Primaflor Mondraker. After a season racing as a privateer with Bec I am super grateful to have been given this opportunity. The 2017 season was really tough on us both but we still achieved some successful results and I have a lot of motivation and determination to get back to a high level in 2018 and with our really strong team I think we can push each other to achieve some great results while keeping our passion and fun. 2018 is a massive year for me and I believe that Primaflor Mondraker can make it possible to achieve my goals. I will be targeting the Commonwealth Games, the World Cups and World Championships”.
The team, again captained by Carlos Coloma, is looking to consolidate itself as a solid top 10 in the UCI Elite ranking and to achieve several podium results in this World Cup.
